In 1824 the drink allowance was shrunk from a pint to a quarter pint of rum (!) and tea adopted, but the adoption of Imperial Measure in 1826 negated some of this diminishment and, apparently, as soldiers continued to both operate a parallel liquor economy (run through the mess officer) and drink to excess and fall overboard (necessitating often dangerous rescues) this committee recommended lowering the evening grog allowance even further. 2 copies in OCLC.
