The New Family Receipt-Book; Containing Eight Hundred Truly Valuable Receipt in Various Branches of Domestic Economy

New-Haven: Howe & Spalding, 1819.

Early Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Good Condition. Item #CAT000038
ISBN: NoISBN

The second American edition published a year after the first in Philadelphia. Full contemporary calf, rubbed but sound, scattered soiling, mild dampstains, endpapers stained, worn and written on, small tears internally, but intact and complete. Well used but well cared for. xxxi, 37-429pp. Cagle-Stafford 567, Bitting 582.

Sometimes attributed to Rundell, but unlikely as the original UK publisher (John Murray) never made an effort to associate this and her popular New System of Domestic Cookery (over which they had a falling out in 1814).

An interesting mix of recipes from the sublime (a recipe for "Koumiss", the famous fermented mare's milk of the Golden Horde) to the questionable "The flour of Rye and English yellow potatoes are found an excellent substitute for coffee." Also fireworks, gardening, rat control. Size: 8vo (octavo). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Cooking, Wine & Dining; Inventory No: CAT000038.

Price: $400.00
