Seventh Ed. Hardcover (Full Leather). Good Condition. Item #049715

Full ca. 19th century blue calf with gilt, light wear, a few surface marks but front board cleanly detached. Spine a touch faded. Marbled endpapers, gilt page edges; an attractive binding save for the front board. Moderate browning and staining throughout, title page with a repair to the fore edge, but generally very good internally. The seventh edition, basically a reissue of the sixth which was the final edition made with Burton's edits (posthumously, from his notes). The first edition was 1621 and it was revised repeatedly growing from some 350,000 words in the first edition to over 500,000 in the sixth. A singular and idiosyncratic work of medicine, psychology, literature, depression and fancy. (6), 78, (6), 723, (10)pp
