The Rehearsal Transpros'd; or Animadversion Upon a Late Book. Intituled, A Preface, Shewing what Grounds there are of Fears and Jealousies of Popery

London: Printed by A.B. for the assigns of John Calvin and Theodore Beza, at the sign of the Kings Indulgence, on the south-side of the Lake Lemane, (Anne Brewster?), 1672.

Second Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Good Condition. Item #048422

Contemporary calf, neatly rebacked. Title and first few pages slightly chipped, wormtrail early on touching letters but not really affecting sense; modest browning. (2), 326pp. There are a couple variants of the second edition, this seems to be the earlier.

Though Marvell had supported Cromwell, even serving as tutor to his ward, he had managed to skate when the monarchy was restored, even then vouching for Milton. By this point he was an advocate for tolerance and his Rehearsal Transpros'd satirizes Samuel Parker's intolerant "Fears and Jealousies of Popery". Remembered now as a poet, Marvell was famous as a satirist and essay writer in his time.
