undated, ca. 1880s in full elaborately gilt and stamped calf, spine sun faded, edges gilt, marbled endpapers, gilt turn ins, modest wear at edges. Foxed at beginning and end, light dampstain to edge of front endpaper but mostly quite clean. Illustrated. With a charming fore-edge painting of Locomotion No. 1, built in 1825 by George and Robert Stephenson. It was the first steam locomotive to haul a passenger-carrying train on a public railway, the Stockton and Darlington Railway. It was on display for many years in Darllngton (whose coat of arms it is depicted on) and is now in Shildon at the Locomotion Museum. Size: Octavo (8vo). Quantity Available: 1.
