The first volume of one of the great, sprawling cookbooks of the 18th century - includes the dizzying array of potages, including the pumpkin hollowed out to hold pumpkin soup, covered in meringue, and baked so that it looks like a pumpkin. A sort of homage to the illusion foods of the middle ages and reminiscent of a recipe for Blomæth Høns from a 13th century manuscript.
