Burnat-Provins (1872-1952) left Paris in 1891 to study art as the École des beaux-arts only admitted men. In 1898 she made a number of trips to Savièse, en Valais which resulted in these lovely illustrations. Later in life she began to have visions of strange creatures, fairies and other bizarre apparitions which she recreated in paintings resulting in an extreme, though also quite striking and beautiful, shift in style.
