Two volumes bound as one comprising books 1-4 (of 6). Contemporary vellum, ties intact, bottom panel of spine strip lacking, light soiling, hinges slightly cracked - binding quite sound overall. Lacking all maps but with other plates as follows: In book 1: 18 folding plates with volvelles or other moving elements intact and 2 lacking strings, 9 non-moving plates, 8 of them folding, 3 tables. Book 2: 4 folding volvelle plates all intact, 9 other plates, 4 of them folding. Book 3: 8 plates, 6 folding and 7 tables. Book 4: 7 plates, 4 of them folding. (4) 56pp; 76pp; (2), 55pp; 39pp.
Around a half dozen plates with neat paper repairs, a few with minor tears, a marginal tear on page 20 of book 4, scattered other minor paper flaws, foxing to some text pages and plates - generally a crisp, attractive copy.
Lovely volvelle's in book 1, books 3 & 4 are filled with Dudley's ideas on naval architecture with lovely plates and type diagrams of formations.
