Full contemporary straight grained blue morocco with the gilt arms of Dom Luis I, King of Portugal. Silk moire endpapers, old bookplate, worming to front blank, foxing to portrait but clean otherwise. Wear at corners of binding, light rubbing to boards, but an attractive example. 152pp
Scarce history of Antonio Pusich who, though of Italian extraction, was the governor of Cape Verde from 1818-1821 (which followed a decade of residence there and an appointment in Brazil). He launched unsuccessful fishing ventures, failed to suppress the slave trade and engaged in an extended feud with Manuel A. Martins which resulted in a mob removing him from office in 1821.
