Contemporary rolled pigskin over boards, boards heavily worn at the corners and fore-edge. Lacking the front blank, notes to pastedown, mostly minor early underlining and marginalia throughout, 3 pages towards the end heavily marked. Modest age toning, a bit of worming in the rear gutter - a sound copy of the Editio Postrema of one of Fernel's central works. One of the most important medical thinkers of the Renaissance, he introduced the term physiology, and was the first to describe the spinal canal. Though important in moving medicine away from superstition, he was also an expert in the angelic and demonic sources of illness, much discussed in this volume which was translated into English as On the Hidden Causes of Things. 425, (38), with printer's mark at rear.
