12 memoires and 10 conferences paginated consecutively, 276pp. The copy described in Brunet (596/7) has 12 and 14 conferences, some published in 1674 (here the title page date is 1672 but 1673 at the rear colophon), other copies encountered - likely printed later - continue with a few more conferences. 8 full page plates one repeated (of a child, fully formed, found in an egg 6 weeks after conception) in Memoires 4 and 5, and a number of in text illustrations including one of a mer-man. Trimmed close to title headings on top edge, but no loss to text. Scattered stains including one large, circular brown stain (2" across at its largest) in the gutter of the last quarter of the book - no text is obscured, though, and the book is largely clean otherwise.

Denis was the physician to Louis XIV and the first person to perform a blood transfusion (from a lamb to a man). This remarkable record of scientific discovery, covering snakes, speaking trumpets, heart anatomy (including a remarkable plate), and most of the serious science of the time (both on the continent and trickling in from The Royal Society in London) as well as a sampling of the more fanciful reports, is quite scarce. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 276 pages. Previous owner's signature to title page. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 kilos. Category: Science & Technology; Biology; Inventory No: 034586.
