New World Archive

December 6th, 2008 § 120

We’ve had ten orders since July from an outfit called “New World Archive” in Chazy, NY. Not familiar with Chazy? It’s near hippie hangout Platsburg and site of an old marble and lime mine. Are they recreating late 20th century culture in the space hollowed out of an old marble quarry? I’ve been expecting this to happen and don’t want to jump to any conclusions, but their purchases (we don’t share specific customer info, not even with Homeland Security, but topics included: new age and Native American books, contemporary fiction in french, cartoons, mysteries, an MIT statistics book) are suggestive – if you put aside the possibility that they’re just a book search service/relister of other peoples merchandise.

Quarry

By my calculation, if they’re bought 10 books from us over the last 5 months, they’ve already purchased at least 25,000 books for their archive. Watch out for these guys.

I googled NWO & found this site. Thanks for figuring out who they are. They are a good customer. I was just curious about them.I have had quite a few orders from them as well, 2 in the last day in fact.

  • John says:

New World Archive purchases for government employees. They are listed as a supplier for books.

Gretmedia has nothing to do with them or milde4. Her customers love her, suppliers hate her. She doesn’t drop-ship, but buys and inspects. She doesn’t like getting overgraded books, don’t blame her, but she does not hesitate to “take” your books when she becomes (often) disorganized, or suppliers do not identify themselves very clearly, like with a packing slip or seller-name on the envelope.

She is a killer shark! She takes abusive advantage of “no delivery confirmation” failures of Amazon sellers, and inability of Half.com sellers to leave negative feedback to force refunds (and she keeps the book!).

Here’s the trick: When you look at her Half.com feedback score, she is 100% positive, but hit the seller feedback tab and look at the hundreds of seller complaints. These are not factored into her score! They bear out my comments above.

Sell to her, but cover her tracks. Cancel your order, she will punish you with bad feedback.

  • John says:

They are not related to vanderbilt_ca. You are drawing an assumption based on……. nothing. Just speculation because of their proximity to Canada is not a logical conclution.

Regarding my earlier email, Gretmedia is associated with the buyer, Cooper-Hunt.

Book_Community does what you say, and there are a couple more, but no evidence that New World Archive does this. As I mentioned in my earlier email, they are a official supplier to government employees. I haven’t yet taken the time to get on this list, but it isn’t like you just sign up, there are requirements.

I too have had book orders for odd books that prompted me to look them up. Thanks for the info.

  • paul rogers says:

New World Archive has been a consistent buyer from me (a one-man operation selling better quality new and used books from his home, through Amazon and Ebay). No problems to date with this buyer.

  • kevin says:

yea we have had several conversations on what they are doing, they have bought hundreds of book from us as well, no complaints on them buying though other dealers have had them leave negative feedbacks. I had explored what everyone said and this is the possibilities is that as mentioned above is people storing them under ground for the 2012 prophecy/nibiru closing in. the other one is Google making their archive and turning many of these books digital… but who knows for sure.

  • tom says:

they purchased a book from me and a solid year later decided they wanted to return it. I sent it back to them. They have since tried to purchase one book 3x and I’ve cancelled the order asking them to get it from another vendor. They are thick headed.

  • Caren says:

Sounds like John may be working for NWA – Government Contract? How do you know? We use to receive several orders from them each week for over a year – no problems at all. The last month or so they’ve dropped off – basically since the Vanderbilt.ca conclusion was listed here. Anyone else having the same experience?

  • Heidi says:

I got ripped off by Gretmedia. If you ship to them without an electronic tracking number or delivery confirmation (costly!!!), they will falsly claim that they never received the book (the parcel had my sender on it and a packing slip enclosed).

Amazon refunds them taking the sellers money away. Both Gretmedia and Amazon profit from it, the seller has the TOTAL loss of the book and the shipping costs and cannot even leave negative feedback because they will retaliate. Amazon obviously supports this fraud making a lot of money.
Replying to the A-Z-Guarantee claim, I scanned my USPS receipt as proof that I shipped it the next day. They denied my claim saying I could not “deliver”. Obviously shipping doesn’t mean deliver to them.

I have been a Pro Merchant for years and just cancelled my $40/months subscription because of this theft and told Amazon so. I don’t see why I should pay so much money to Amazon if they participate in this kind of scam. They don’t even allow sellers to block certain buyers. I am also getting away from selling books, now, concentrating on other merchandize. The books I still have, I prefer to sell on Half.com. Sellers can print out the e-label with a tracking number for only 19 Cents which is o.k.

Sellers beware of “Gretchen Hunt”, “Grethunt”, “Gretmedia”, New World Archive, “Gretchenmedia”.

What about pqbpurchasing? I have gotten several purchases from them and all with a different mailing address. It appears that they are a drop-shipper because they don’t want pricing or packing slips … but my policy is to include the slip and so it goes in (with the price marked out, just in case it is a gift).

  • Charly says:

I’ve been getting a lot of orders from lavendarstar, so far no problems but all of the addresses I’ve mailed items to have been completely different. Are they are a drop-shipper? I usually put a half.com packing slip inside the package so the person receiving it knows it came from me and not lavendarstar.

you say you have been a seller for years on Amazon yet you still do not put a Dc on your mailings? DC cost is 19 cents on Pitney Bowes and well worth the extra cents to do it.
I highly doubt that you have sold for years and haven’t learned that.
I sell regularly to New World Archive without ever having a feedback from them, good or bad. I am always ecstatic when they order from me as they are solid buyers.

  • tb says:

Why are you, like, blabbing about your customers like this? If someone buys a book from me that’s their business–not to be broadcast to the rest of the world.

  • Philistine21 says:

I work for a bookstore and we have received some orders from New World Archive as well. They ordered handwriting books.

Doesn’t sound very suspicious to me.

  • OnArt says:

Well..curiosity brought me here too…they have been great and completely uncomplicated customers since 2 years now for me…probably my best buyer. So has been Gretchen Media, “milde4″ and the company in Portland Oregon, although they are somewhat annoying by ordering everything priority mail, which is often bad on the shipping charges.
I sure appreciate all of them though and favour them by far to the “there is a black mark on the bottom” people :)

    How does one drop ship

  • Jan says:

I too have received several orders over the last few months from New World Archive. They have not left feedback good or bad. Good customer. I searched for them and came across your blog. They’ve purchased science and business books. I too wondered what they were doing with them, whether they were a reseller, bookstore or ??

I’m going to bookmark your blog and check back to see what others are selling to them.

  • HarBer says:

I believe they may also be using jdmediabooks. I have books going to NWA, but amazon.ca shows jdmediabooks as the seller.

  • Jaxion says:

After a lot of investigation I found out that New World Archive is a reseller. They buy books and resell them in other countries at a very good mark-up. Check it out for yourself.

  • Jennifer says:

I am in the process of taking Gretmedia to court. She drop-shipped a textbook of mine, and although I have a letter from the recipient verifying that she received my book, Half.com has not refunded me my money. Since then, I have discovered that Gretmedia/Gretchen/Woody Hunt is within 30 minutes of where I live and am going to be filing in small claims court. I have already reported him/her/it to the USPS for mail fraud.

If anyone needs any contact information, please email me at jmbperry@att.net and I will gladly supply you with any information you may need to help recoup your losses. This has been going on for over 2 months with me, and this is getting to be ridiculous
